What Are Carbohydrates?
Here at Muscle Butter USA, we believe in balance. We believe that pushing yourself harder is the ultimate way to keep moving. But the harder you push yourself, the more recovery your body will need. Muscle Butter USA is a great way to balance your workout routine.
We also believe in balance when it comes to your diet. Most diets limit your intake of carbohydrates, and we never entirely understood why. Instead you should be thinking about which carbohydrates to eat.
Let’s break down some basics:
-What are carbohydrates?
Carbohydrates are the sugars and starches that are found in grains, fruit, vegetables, etc. They are super important for our body, and make up one of the “Big Three” macronutrients that our body needs.
-What are the different types of carbohydrates?
There are 2 types of carbohydrates: simple and complex.
Simple carbohydrates are quickly broken down and digested. Examples include fruit, milk, and refined sugar.
Complex carbohydrates take a longer time for your body to break down. Examples include beans and rice.
-Why do you need carbohydrates?
Carbohydrates give your body the energy it needs to operate muscles and the central nervous system. If your body doesn’t have carbs, it begins to use protein as its energy source,
Carbohydrates also keep our brain healthy. Without them, you will probably experience irritability, moodiness, and major brain fog.
-Bad Carbohydrates vs. Good Carbohydrates
Bad carbohydrates are high in refined sugar, and low in nutritional value. They will raise your blood sugar super quickly, and don’t give your body a chance to digest them.
Bad carbs are:
-doughnuts
-cookies
-pastries
-candy
Good carbohydrates, on the other hand, are full of nutrients, and take a while for your body to digest. They don’t normally raise your body’s glucose levels as much.
Good carbs are:
-fruit
-grains (rice, etc.)
-vegetables
-legumes (beans, etc.)
At Muscle Butter USA, we believe in balance—so take some bad carbs, a lot of good carbs, and make sure your diet is healthy for your body and your mind.
